Slide 1 - Build A Skybox
In this exercise you'll learn to build a skybox using the materials from
the previous exercises.
Preparation Work
This series of instructions contains preparation work.
- If you are continuing from a save point, open an Explorer window to \EXERCISES.
- Double click USING_PALETTES.BOX to open the database.
- Return to the Explorer window.
- Go to the EXERCISES\PALETTES directory
- Double click MATERIAL_PALETTE.BOX to open the database in another copy of Scenome.
- Go up one directory to \EXERCISES.
Applying The Grass Material To The Scenery
This series of instructions contains preparation work.
- Switch to the copy of Scenome with the active file USING_PALETTES.BOX.
- Examine the hierarchy.
- Double click the link node named NodeLink 1.
- This displays link properties in the property editor.
- Scroll down and find the External Link Settings property group.
- Set Point At This Node Inside The File to /Landscape/Materials/grass_texture.
- The worksheet updates.
- Set the name of the link node to Link: grass_texture.
- Double click the modifier named RectangleGeometryModifier.
- This displays modifier properties in the property editor.
- Set Minimum X to -1000 m. Be sure to include the m.
- Set Minimum Y to -1000 m. Be sure to include the m.
- Set Maximum X to 1000 m. Be sure to include the m.
- Set Maximum Y to 1000 m. Be sure to include the m.
Scenome is currently set to work in United States feet. But don't worry -
you can enter values in meters and Scenome will do the math for you.
- Set X Resolution to 32.
- Set Y Resolution to 32.
- Select Worksheet » Properties
- This displays worksheet properties in the property editor.
- Find the Camera Settings property group.
- Set Camera Orientation X to 65.
- Set Camera Orientation Y to 0.
- Set Camera Orientation Z to 0.
- Set Camera Position X to 0.
- Set Camera Position Y to 3000.
- Set Camera Position Z to 5000.
- Set Far Clipping Distance to 10000 ft.
- If mesh edges are not visible, select Worksheet » Global Edges to enable global edges.
This mesh serves as the basic landscape for now. We're going to build
a canyon in the next exercise but for now let's continue building the skybox.
- Select File » Save from the main menu.
- Select File » Save As from the main menu.
- Save the file as LANDSCAPE.BOX.
- Again select File » Save from the main menu.
- Save the file as SKYBOX.BOX.
