This exercise teaches you to work with material and texture palettes.

Creating Materials & Textures

This series of instructions teaches you how to load textures from the hard disk.

  1. Return to the copy of Scenome with the active file MATERIAL_PALETTE.BOX.
  2. Examine the hierarchy.
  3. Delete both the material nodes beneath Scene.
  4. Right click over Scene and select Create » Group from the listed options.
  5. Set the name of the new group to Textures.
  6. Again right click over Scene and select Create » Group from the listed options.
  7. Set the name of the new group to Materials.
  8. The hierarchy looks like this: This is a picture of the hierarchy.
  9. Left click the group node named Textures.
  10. Select Hierarchy » Load Texture/Material from the main menu.
  11. This displays the Select An Image File dialog.
  12. Navigate to \EXERCISES\TEXTURES.
  13. Select all the PNG images in the directory. This is a picture of the Select Image File dialog.
  14. Click Open.
  15. Left click the small + to the left of the group node named Textures.
  16. The hierarchy looks like this: This is a picture of the hierarchy.
