Build A Basic Mesh

Slide 1

Get ready to build your first mesh.

Setup Work

This instruction set contains setup work.

  1. Make sure Scenome is not running.
  2. Start Scenome.
  3. Open \EXERCISES\BUILD_A_BASIC_MESH.BOX from inside the Scenome data folder.
  4. The path is likely C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Scenomics\Exercises.
NOTE: Your system might use a specific user name in the path instead of "OWNER".
  5. Select Worksheet » Global Edges from the main menu. [ ALT + W + E ]
  6. Select Worksheet » Show » Lights from the main menu. [ ALT + W + S + L ]
  7. The worksheet looks like this: This is a picture of the worksheet.

Build The Mesh

This instruction set teaches you how to build the mesh node set.

  1. Examine the hierarchy on the left side of the desktop. This is a picture of the hierarchy.
  2. Left click the group node named Scene.
  3. The node highlights, indicating selection.
  4. Select Create » Group Node from the main menu.
  5. Examine the hierarchy: This is a picture of the hierarchy.
  6. Left click the new group node.
  7. Wait a moment and left click again.
  8. The node opens for naming.
  9. Set the name of the group node to MeshPaletteGroup.
  10. Examine the hierarchy: This is a picture of the hierarchy.
  11. Right click over the group node named MeshPaletteGroup.
  12. Select Create » Material Node from the listed options.
  13. Expand MeshPaletteGroup so you can see the material.
  14. Examine the hierarchy: This is a picture of the hierarchy.
  15. Right click over the group node named Scene.
  16. Select Create » Mesh Node from the list options.
  17. The hierarchy looks like this: This is a picture of the hierarchy.
  18. Left click NewMeshNode.
  19. The node highlights, indicating selection.
  20. Wait a second and then left click again.
  21. The node "opens" for naming.
  22. Set the name to MyFirstMesh and hit ENTER when you are finished.
  23. The hierarchy looks like this: This is a picture of the hierarchy.
  24. Right click over MyFirstMesh and select Modifiers » RectangleGeometryModifier from the listed options.
  25. This creates a RectangleGeometryModifier in the mesh construction history.
  26. Examine the hierarchy and left click the small + to the left of MyFirstMesh. This is a picture of the hierarchy.

Examing Node Properties

This instruction set teaches you to examine node properties in the property editor.

  1. Double click RectangleGeometryModifier.
  2. This displays modifier properties in the property editor.
  3. Use the scroll bar to find the Rectangle property group. This is a picture of the property editor.
  4. These parameters control the appearance and resolution of the modifier.
Notice the Material parameter is unspecified. This won't cause any serious problems but should not be left unspecified. The next page teaches you to create connections between nodes.

Save The File

This instruction set teaches you to save the file.

  1. Select File » Save from the main menu.
