Slide 4 - Using GEOTIFF Imagery
This exercise discusses Scenome's paged terrain organization on the hard disk.
Examine The Terrain Directories
Scenome's paged terrain database stores information on the hard disk.
- Open an Explorer window to \EXERCISES\BILLINGS-W.
There are several directories herein.
- HIGH_RESOLUTION_PROCESSED_IMAGERY. If available, this directory contains high resolution GEOTIFF
imagery and image map metadata. The GEOTIFFS are used to generate textures for paged terrain databases.
- IMAGE_PROCESSING. Usually contains high resolution image such as MrSID files or high resolution GEOTIFF
data that is not suitable for the terrain until the imagery undergoes processing. The next tutorial deals
extensively with image processing.
- LOW_RESOLUTION_PROCESSED_IMAGERY. If available, this directory contains low resolution GEOTIFF
imagery and image map metadata. The GEOTIFFS are used to generate textures for your preview mesh.
- OPENSCENEGRAPH_EXPORT. Contains exported OpenSceneGraph databases.
- OUTPUT_MESHES. Contains individual terrain meshes referenced by the link nodes in the master database.
- OUTPUT_TEXTURES. Contains individual textures for the terrain meshes stored in OUTPUT_MESHES.
- TEMPORARY_ELEVATION. Contains a 24-bit bitmap used to store elevation values for the preview mesh and individual output meshes.
- TEMPORARY_TEXTURE. Contains the preview mesh texture.
- BILLINGS_MASTER.BOX. The master file containing the paged terrain database.
- BILLINGS-W.DEM. The original digital elevation model for the BILLINGS-W geocell.
- That concludes this exercise.
- Save your work and continue with the next exercise.
- If you choose this as a save point, remember your file is \EXERCISES\BILLINGS-W\BILLINGS_MASTER.BOX.
