Work on the next release continues at good speed. Several bugs have been fixed and requested features [ EX: we added export to OpenSceneGraph binary ] have been added. We are working on an important performance optimization that we would like to release soon. Attention is being paid to several other areas that need more polish or refactoring. We plan on finalizing the terrain systems before releasing additional technology such as feature integration or OpenFlight export. As an organization we are always focused on infrastructure and resolving current issues before adding major extensions. If you have questions, comments, or concerns, or think that something should be addressed, please contact mike@scenomics.com with a list of requests for the base package. You can expect another release next week. |

| ScenomicsFlash! | File Format Change Notification |
|
A file format change has occured. This means that old files no longer work in the new build. Scenomics engaged this file format change because Scenome is beta; rest assured that file format changes will not occur with the commercial version. Technically this file format change was not absolutely required but avoiding this change would have added additional engineering overhead to the release. |
| Scenomics | OSG:Export Error Notification |
|
The OpenSceneGraph Export command uses drive-letter dependent paths. This will be fixed in the next release, Monday, August 13th. |
| Scenomics | Crash Bug Notification |
|
A crash occurs when the Create Terrain command is invoked and asked to produce output terrain with tessellation values higher than 32. Despite several investigations the source of this bug is still not known. This affects the Output Tessellation values in the ExportOptionsLayer. |
| Scenomics | Documentation Refactoring |

During this time you may notice inconsistencies in the graphics and text throughout the online help. A patch is now available for all current users. Please be aware that the new build has some terminology and metaphor changes. |

Scenomics releases an update with bug fixes and additional features. |
| Quick Tip: Data Formats |
|
At present Scenome only uses 1-degree DEM data; Scenome does not load SDTS data and it does not correctly display DEM data created from converted SDTS data. This is because of the method by which the SDTS format is implemented; DEM data created by converting SDTS files is not at all the same as a standard 1-degree DEM. Here is a web site containing 1-degree DEM data for the entire United States. http://edcftp.cr.usgs.gov/pub/data/DEM/250/ |
| Quick Tip: Automatic Controls For Near/Far Clip |
|
Automatic Controls 1. Make sure Scenome is shut down. 2. There are two commands on the worksheet menu: Small Area Scenery and Wide Area Scenery. 3. These scripts control near/far clipping distance automatically. 4. Open \PROGRAM FILES\SCENOMICS\SCRIPTS\WORKSHEET_SCRIPTS.SLL and find these scripts. 5. Change the near/far clip values to your personal settings. 6. Restart Scenome. |
| Quick Tip: Database Unit Labels |
|
You can change the data units labels from feet to meters very easily: 1. Select Edit > Database Properties from the main menu. 2. This displays database properties in the property editor. 3. Scroll down to the Database Properties property group. It's at the bottom. 4. Select Database Units. Metric Meters sets the database unit labels to use meters. |
| Quick Tip: Controlling Navigation Speed |
|
To control camera navigation speed: 1. Select Worksheet > Properties from the main menu. 2. This displays worksheet properties in the property editor. 3. Find the "Camera Settings" property group. It's at the very top. 4. Set "Far Clip Plane" to 100,000 units. 5. Try navigation again. 6. If navigation is too fast, decrease the value. 7. If navigation is too slow, increase the value. |
| Next Release: Friday, July 20th, 2007 |
|
On Friday, July 20th, 2007 Scenomics will release a slightly upgraded version of Scenome including updated documentation, additional tutorials, new features, and new sample databases. |
| Texture/Elevation Imagery Format Questions |
|
Scenomics would like to know what additional elevation imagery and texture imagery formats you need. For elevation, currently SDTS is planned and ArcGrid has been mentioned. Scenome uses GEOTIFF imagery at present. If there are additional format requirements, please send email to formats@scenomics.com to participate. |
